Technology cooperation between Infineon and Arnold NextG for innovative drive-by-wire solutions

Infineon Technologies AG and Arnold NextG GmbH have agreed on a technology cooperation on close collaboration for platform-independent drive-by-wire solutions

Arnold NextG offers with NX NextMotion a worldwide unique central control unit for any drive-by-wire applications, which is certified according to the highest automotive and industry standards and enables a general operating permit for on- an offroad vehicles. The ECU contains the necessary interfaces for all steer, brake and drive-by-wire applications up to autonomous driving. The key microelectronics components of the drive-by-wire system consist of 80 percent Infineon semiconductors. Together, Infineon and Arnold NextG intend to drive development forward and pave the way for drive-by-wire technology to enter automotive series production.

Testing under extreme conditions

With a view to future series production, the performance and reliability of development platforms can be tested and further developed in the motorsport environment under extreme conditions. For this reason, Arnold NextG is using two Mercedes-AMG GT3s equipped with measurement technology for data aggregation as the basis for drive-by-wire development at the ADAC GT Masters season finale. Infineon is represented as an important technology partner at the season finale with a logo and the slogans "Data drives Innovation" and "Data drives Mobility" on the race car.

Cornerstone for safe mobility of the future

"The data we are already aggregating and deriving today forms the basic prerequisite for the next generation of our by-wire technology with a focus on Level 4 and 5 autonomous driving. In this way, we are laying the foundation for the safe mobility of the future and, together with strong partners such as Infineon, defining the requirements for tomorrow's technology," emphasizes Kevin Arnold, CEO of Arnold NextG, referring to the role of motorsports as a development accelerator.

Important technological step on the road to autonomous driving

"For drive-by-wire to become established, reliable technology and consumer confidence in it are needed. Infineon contributes to this with great system understanding and high product quality," says Peter Schiefer, President of Infineon's Automotive Division. "Digitally controlled steering and thus the complete digitization of vehicle control is an important technological step on the road to autonomous driving. And drive-by-wire also contributes to further decarbonization, because it means less vehicle weight and thus higher energy efficiency."

Drive-by-wire is considered a key technology for automated and ultimately autonomous driving. For example, the mechanical steering linkage between the steering wheel and steering gear is no longer required, which not only means safety benefits and weight reduction, but also makes a completely new interior Design of any vehicle possible. The connection between the steering wheel and the wheels is provided by redundant microelectronics and thus semiconductors from Infineon.

Arnold NextG and Infineon are convinced that their cooperation will significantly accelerate the market introduction of drive-by-wire solutions. In addition, the experience gained from the implemented projects will play a decisive role in the development of future semiconductor products.
